Renewing a Masterwork: A Conversation about Louise Nevelson and The Chapel of the Good Shepherd

  • Farnsworth Auditorium 16 Museum Street Rockland, ME, 04841 United States (map)

Talk by Jared Stahler and Michael K. Komanecky

While Louise Nevelson’s only remaining intact sculptural environment, the Chapel of the Good Shepherd (1977) at Saint Peter’s Church, is undergoing restoration in New York City, the work’s Trinity columns are on view at the Farnsworth. Join Pastor Jared Stahler and Chief Curator Michael K. Komanecky for a discussion about the genesis of Nevelson Chapel, its place in her work, its history, conservation of all sculptures, and the comprehensive sustainable environmental upgrade. Jared R. Stahler is director of the campaign to renew Nevelson Chapel and serves as associate pastor of Saint Peters’ Church in New York City, which both commissioned and houses the Chapel. A graduate of the interdisciplinary Yale Institute of Sacred Music, he works at the intersection of art, religious expression, and public life.

Cost: $10; free for museum members and Rockland residents, including gallery admission
