Restoration Update
Monitoring of the newly-installed, dedicated HVAC system continues. While the environmental conditions in the Chapel are far better than they were prior to the introduction of the new system, modifications are being undertaken with view toward achieving, within established guidelines, as precise as possible temperature and relative humidity control.
While the original principal at ADS Engineers has retired, Ari Golden (HBDP, LEED AP), a partner in the firm, is both monitoring and guiding adjustments with consultant Michael Henry of Watson & Henry Associates, Preservation Architects & Engineers. David Hottenroth, a long-time member of Saint Peter’s Church, member of the Nevelson Legacy Council and founding partner of Hottenroth+Joseph Architects, is coordinating this work on behalf of Saint Peter’s Church and the Arts Committee of the Nevelson Legacy Council -- a group of dedicated conservation and preservation experts guiding the effort.
A reheat coil was recently installed, bringing increased humidity control. Several new sequencing patterns have been programmed. In the near future the controls themselves will be updated. This upgrade will allow off-site control / programming as well as another layer of data. Conditions in the Chapel relate to multiple external factors, including outdoor temperature/humidity as well as the indoor conditions of the church and all of (the former) Citicorp Center. Several tests will be performed in the coming weeks to better understand these conditions. The result will inform the ongoing commissioning effort.
